REQUIREMENTS TO EXPEDITE U.S. PASSPORTS
NEW ISSUE

You are considered a new or first time issue applicant if you answer YES to any of the following:

  • You are applying for a US passport for the first time.
  • Your expired US passport is not in your possesion.
  • Your previous US passport has expired and was issued more than     15 years ago.
  • Your previous US passport was issued when you were under 16      years.

  • Instructions and Document Completion:

    1. Completed application form DS-11.
    • Applicants requesting expedited passport service through TDS, MUST now use an online version of the form DS-11, rather than handwriting the required personal data.
    • DO NOT SIGN the DS-11 form until asked to do so by the Post Office or Court House passport clerk.
    • If replacing a lost passport form DSP-64 must also be completed.
    • You MUST print and submit TWO copies of your completed application DS-11. One copy for the sealed envelope and the other copy for inclusion in the FEDEX Envelope, paper-clipped to the outside of your sealed envelope (see #9 below).

    Two recent professional passport-type photographs

    Letter of Authorization.

    • You must print, then complete and include TWO COPIES of a Letter "Attn: U.S Passport Agency" stating: "I, (applicant name), hereby authorize Travel Document Systems to pick up my passport, and to discuss the status of my application with the Passport Services staff."

    • One copy of this letter, with original signature in BLUE INK, should be placed inside your sealed envelope by the passport clerk and the other should be paper-clipped to the outside of that envelope

    4. Proof of U.S. Citizenship:
    • A certified birth certificate, issued by state or county health department or vital statistics bureau (not hospital certificates); -or-
    • A naturalization certificate; -or-
    • A certificate of citizenship; -or-
    • A Consular report of birth abroad; -or-
    • A previous U.S. passport (if issued more than 15 years ago, or you were under 16 years when your most recent passport was issued).

    5. Proof of Identity:
    • A Valid Drivers Licence issued more than 6 months ago;
    • If the above-mentioned Driver's License isn't available, then you need to supply an alternate form of identity.

    6. Completed Cover Page and Credit Card Authorization forms (print using the Print button on your browser)

    • Effective February 01, 2004, all minor children applying for passports are required to appear in person at the local acceptance agency.
    8. Execution of your Passport Application:
    • Take the above requirements to your local acceptance agent for Passport Applications (usually a post office or county clerk or court house).
    • Pay the clerk the U.S. government fee, including rush fees, and execution fees. Be prepared to write two checks for the total amount, as the clerk will retain $25.00 execution fee.
      • $135.00 + $25.00 = $160.00 for adults,
      • $120.00 + $25.00 = $145.00 for children under 16 years.
    • Please ask the clerk NOT to include the cost of USPS return postage in your payment of passport fees.
    • Please write your name and date of birth on the check.
    • Credit cards are not accepted for this part of the transaction.
    • Ask the clerk to execute the passport application documents and place them in a sealed envelope addressed to "U.S. Passport Agency". (You must not open this envelope again before shipping it).

    9. SUMMARY:

    Please be sure to make two separate copies of:
    • The Application Form DS-11
    • The Letter of Authorization
    • The Proof of Departure (Itinerary)
    The following items must be placed inside the sealed envelope executed by the Passport Clerk, then all documents should be placed inside a Fedex envelop for shipping to Travel Document Systems, Inc.
    • Your Proof of U.S. Citizenship
    • The Application Form DS-11, the photographs and the appropriate Government fees
    • The Letter of Authorization
    • The Proof of Departure (Itinerary)
    The following items must be attached (paper-clip) to the outside of the sealed envelope.
    • A copy of the Application Form DS-11
    • A copy of the Letter of Authorization
    • A copy of the Proof of Departure (Itinerary)
    • A completed Cover Page and fees for TDS expediting services

    U.S. Passport Expedited Application Fee:
    $160.00
    (Minor $145.00)

    TDS Fees to Hand Carry Application:
    $ 75.00 per passport (for issue between 2 and 4 Weeks)

    Very urgent applications can be issued between 1 and 3 business days. For more urgent issue please follow our Washington DC or San Francisco instructions.

    Include credit card authorization, a check or money order payable to "Travel Document Systems, Inc." for TDS Handling Fee, and return FedEx cost.

    URGENT APPLICATIONS SHOULD BE SHIPPED TO TDS USING ONLY THE FEDEX COMPANY

    Processing Information
    • Your application will be hand carried to the Passport Agency. There, the Passport Agent will examine the application and if all documents are in order, assign a date the passport will be issued, according to departure date from the U.S. Passport applications submitted by mail to passport agencies routinely take 4 to 6 weeks to be processed.
    • Urgent issue applications can be issued in between 1 and 4 business days. For urgent issue please follow our Washington DC or San Francisco instructions. .
    • Passport applications submitted by mail to passport agencies routinely take 4 to 6 weeks to be processed. TDS expedites applications by hand carrying them to the U.S. Passport Agency, and following up on the progress. Please note that TDS is not in a position to be able to offer any guarantees of passports to be issued by a specific date. Issue is determined by the urgency of your departure, the acceptance of your appplication without addidtional information being required, and passport agency workloads, particularly during peak travel periods.
    • A 48-page business travelers passport can be issued in lieu of the usual 24-page passport on request at no additional charge (however, ONLY if the larger books are available at the time of issue). Submit a written request on your letterhead applying for a 48-page passport.
